Health Education

Ventanilla de Salud (VDS) or Health Window is a collaborative program with the Consulate of Mexico that aims to facilitate access to primary and preventive health services. All of the Community Programs and Events provided by Centro Multicultural La Familia (Centro)
are available in English and Spanish.

About the program

The VDS accompanies families to navigate the health system in the United States, assisting in the elimination of barriers such as language and misinformation.

VDS promotes healthy lifestyles and disease prevention through collaborations and alliances with local and binational health centers and agencies, such as Centro Multicultural La Familia.

Ventanilla de Salud also hosts health fairs, vaccination clinics and resource drives in collaboration with our community partners. For information on upcoming events, follow us on our social media.

What is Medicaid?

Health care coverage is available to individuals and families who meet certain eligibility requirements. The goal of these health care programs is to ensure that essential health care services are made available to those who otherwise do not have the financial resources to purchase them.

It is very important that individuals and families obtain health care coverage. In Michigan, there are many health care programs available to children, adults, and families. Specific coverages may vary depending on the program and the applicant’s citizenship status (some non-citizens may be limited to coverage of emergency services only).

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) determines eligibility for most of the health care programs that are administered by the State of Michigan). All of the health care programs in Michigan have an income test, except Children’s Special Health Care Services, and some of the programs also have an asset test. These income and asset tests may vary with each program. For some of the programs, the applicant may have income that is over the income limit and still be able to obtain health care benefits when their medical expenses equal or exceed their deductible (formerly known as spend-down) amount.

What Is Assisted Living?

There are different types of long-term residential facilities available to seniors, and each accommodates residents with varying needs.

What Is Memory Care?

Often, individuals in the early stages of Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia can receive care safely at home, but as the condition progresses, they may need more serious interventions.

What Is In-Home Care?

In-home care, sometimes known simply as “home care,” is a type of senior support that may allow your loved one to stay in their own home, surrounded by known and familiar people and belongings.

Caregiving Resources

Being a caregiver for your loved one is daunting. These resources can help you manage burnout and finances, and help you educate yourself on your legal options.
